Asunafo South DCE shocked by ruined bungalows and properties

The new District Chief Executive for Asunafo South, Hon. Benjamin Yinkah, was visibly stunned when he toured his official residence this week, only to find it in complete disrepair.

What was once a government bungalow is now overrun with weeds. Windows are shattered, door frames ripped out, and there’s not a single piece of furniture left in sight.

“I honestly didn’t expect this,” Hon. Yinkah said, shaking his head as he walked through the abandoned building. “It’s heartbreaking to see a public facility in this state. This isn’t just wear and tear, this is neglect.”

The tour was part of his first official task as DCE — to assess the state of government assets as he takes over the reins of the district. But what he found left more questions than answers.

Hon. Yinkah didn’t mince words, blaming the previous administration for what he described as years of mismanagement.

“This facility was handed over in this condition by the outgoing NPP leadership, led by the former DCE, Hon. Frank Adusei Poku,” he said. “Public resources were clearly not cared for.”

In the meantime, the DCE has tasked the Assembly’s engineering team to begin immediate renovations on the bungalow, citing the need for a functional official residence to avoid racking up hotel bills.

Later, speaking to a group of young people in the district, Hon. Yinkah urged them to support the NDC government’s efforts to bring real change to Asunafo South.

“We can’t do this alone. We need you — the youth — to be part of the journey,” he said.

He also promised to roll out skills training programmes to equip young people with practical skills that would reduce dependency and help fight rising drug abuse in the area.

“The future of this district rests on how well we prepare our youth,” he said. “If we give them the right tools and opportunities, there’s no limit to what they can achieve.”
