Ayawaso Central MCE calls for revival of backyard farming, lauds government’s food security interventions

The Municipal Chief Executive for Ayawaso Central, Rudolph Collingwoode-Williams, has urged Ghanaians, particularly the youth, to return to backyard and small-scale farming as part of a national strategy to reduce food imports and strengthen the economy.

He made the call while speaking at the 41st Farmers’ Day celebration, held at the Accra Technical Training Centre (ATTC) in Kokomlemle within the Ayawaso Central Municipality.

The MCE recalled how backyard farming once formed a key part of household livelihood systems, providing poultry, vegetables, and other fresh produce.

However, he noted that the rising pace of construction and urban development has gradually eliminated many of these traditional spaces.
