A Ghana Air Force Z9 utility helicopter carrying 8 people has crashed near Obuasi in the Ashanti Region. The aircraft reportedly went down after taking off from Accra, and authorities fear no survivors among the crew and passengers.
The military helicopter en route from Accra to Obuasi crashed shortly after takeoff, losing contact with radar around 9:12 a.m. and later being found burned beyond recognition at Adansi Brofeyedu.
All eight people onboard, three crew members and five passengers, are feared dead, with eyewitnesses reporting dismembered bodies and a fire at the crash site.
The Ghana Armed Forces are investigating possible causes, including weather and technical failure, while identification of victims is ongoing through non-visual means due to the extent of the damage.
The incident raises serious concerns about aviation safety, the operational impact on military transport services, and the need for transparent investigation.
Government officials are expected to issue statements following preliminary findings.
The Airforce made a press release regarding the said helicopter being missing with no radar contact.
