The Ashanti Regional Chairman of opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, has withdrawn his application to the High Court seeking a review of his bail conditions.
The motion, initially filed on May 30, 2025, was scheduled for hearing on June 3, but was formally withdrawn by his legal team on Monday, June 2.
The application challenged the GH₵50 million bail imposed by the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO), arguing that the amount was excessive and potentially obstructive to his release.
Lead counsel for the politician, Andy Appiah-Kubi, confirmed that all necessary documentation for the two justified sureties has been completed, rendering the court application unnecessary.
This progress was facilitated with considerable assistance from former Minister for Food and Agriculture, Bryan Acheampong.
Chairman Wontumi has been in EOCO custody since May 27, 2025, following his arrest over allegations including fraud, causing financial loss to the state, and money laundering.
The withdrawal of the bail review application is expected to expedite his release from custody.
