Come out in your numbers, let’s send a very strong signal to the EC- Mahama rallies NDC, Ghanaians to join Tuesday’s demo

The Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has urged the rank and file of Ghanaians to fully participate in the nationwide demonstration against the Electoral Commission (EC) this Tuesday.

John Mahama noted with concern, the belligerence of tbe EC Commissioners, whose utterances lately does not reflect a credible arbiter of the upcoming December 7 elections.

Addressing a mini durbar at AMANFROM in the Ga South Municipality in the Greater Accra region, the former President said the anomalies in tbe voters register must be fixed and the EC has no option.

He said it’s become clear the EC has an agenda which has grave consequences for the peace and security of the country if not addressed.

His comment follows several appeals by Traditional rulers, religious leaders, civil society organizations and other well meaning Ghanaians, which have fallen on deaf ears.

“The only way to get the EC to sit up is to put pressure on them and that is why on Tuesday you must all join the demonstrations across the country and it’s not only NDC people alone but all Ghanaians,” Mr Mahama who begun phase two of Greater Accra regional tour today, emphasized.

Mr Mahama also slammed the EC for false claims that the voter register has never been subjected to audit since 1992

He described as an insult, comments by Alex Tetteh the EC Director of Operations suggesting NDC never complained when there were as he put it plants and animals in the 2016 register

“The NPP insisted the register was audited when I was President. So an independent audit was done and it took less than two weeks to cleanup the register. I don’t know why that can’t be done now ” he quizzed.

The NDC has cited instances of illegal voter transfers, change of polling stations on the blind side voters among others says it now has no alternative but to demonstrate against the EC

The NDC which has been vigilant on EC’s operations had demanded a live broadcast of their findings after scrutinizing the provisional register which was exhibited recently but that requested was rejected by the EC

Another appeal for a forensic audit had been shot down.

“The latest Afro barometer report suggests 54% of Ghanaians still have trust in the EC. This means the EC must go the extra mile to reverse the fast eroding confidence” – Mr Mahama emphasized citing 2016 when he (John Mahama was President), the EC was compelled to allow audit of the register.

I was an election observer recently in Liberia and when this came up, ECOWAS was compelled to set up an independent Committee to auditor their register. This is doable and the EC can get this done within two weeks – he added

John Mahama is thus calling on all Ghanaians and lovers of Democracy to join Tuesday, September 17, 2024 protest
