Committee established to investigate Ridge hospital case – Health Minister

The Ministry of Health has condemned the violent assault on healthcare workers at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge Hospital) after a video went viral showing relatives of an accident victim physically confronting emergency staff over alleged delays in treatment.

The altercation forced hospital management to call in the Ghana Police Service to restore order.

Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh described the incident as “unfortunate,” warning that such attacks put both patients and medical staff at risk.

He assured the public that additional security measures have been ordered at Ridge Hospital to safeguard healthcare workers.

Mr. Akandoh, who visited the hospital in the aftermath of the incident, expressed solidarity with staff and urged the public to exercise patience and respect toward medical professionals.

Mr. Akandoh has announced that a committee of enquiry has been established to investigate the recent incident.

Speaking in an interview, the Minister explained that the committee has been tasked to probe the matter thoroughly and submit its findings within seven working days.

He assured the public that the Ministry is committed to ensuring transparency and accountability in addressing the situation, and appropriate actions will be taken based on the committee’s report.
