As calls intensify for President John Dramani Mahama to appoint a substantive Defence Minister, three months after the tragic passing of the former minister, I wish to respectfully urge the President to consider Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings for the position.
Her impressive educational background, extensive experience, and proven leadership make her an exceptional candidate for this critical national role.
As a seasoned politician and member of the current government, Dr. Zanetor has consistently demonstrated strong leadership and a deep appreciation of Ghana’s national security landscape.
Her commitment to national development, coupled with her longstanding advocacy for women’s empowerment, uniquely positions her to serve effectively as Defence Minister.
Appointing Dr. Zanetor would not only strengthen the country’s security leadership but would also reflect the administration’s dedication to inclusivity, diversity, and merit-based appointments.
I strongly encourage President Mahama to give due consideration to her candidature.
Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, a third-term Member of Parliament for Klottey Korle and daughter of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings, currently chairs the Select Committee on Security and Intelligence and serves as a Member of the Pan-African Parliament (PAP), the legislative arm of the African Union.
Beyond her medical training and professional experience, she also holds a Master’s Degree in Conflict, Peace and Security (EMCPS) from the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC), along with several specialised certificates in Defence Management, Conflict and Crisis Management, Women, Peace and Security, Counterterrorism, and Counter, Improvised Explosive Device operations.
These qualifications place her among the most suitably prepared individuals to protect Ghana’s sovereignty in the capacity of Defence Minister.
