Defence ministry launches investigation into Z-9 helicopter crash

The Ministry of Defence on 25 August 2025, has announced that the board set up to investigate the recent Z-9 helicopter crash has formally commenced work.

According to a press release by the ministry, the board is chaired by the National Security Coordinator, with membership drawn from the Ghana Air Force and the Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation and Prevention Bureau of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA).

According to the Ministry, the United States is supporting the process by providing advice and assistance through visiting investigators from the U.S. Air Force.

The board also has the mandate to invite other experts and institutions, both local and international, to assist with the probe.

A preliminary investigation team, which was constituted immediately after the August 6 crash, is expected to submit its report to the board on 25 August 2025.

The board itself has been tasked to complete its work within 30 days.

The Defence Ministry reiterated its commitment to ensuring a thorough, transparent, and credible inquiry into the tragic incident.
