DVLA opens new service centre in Dansoman to enhance accessibility and transparency

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has commissioned a new service centre in Dansoman as part of its ongoing decentralisation programme aimed at improving accessibility and reducing congestion at major national offices.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony on Tuesday, October 28, the Chief Executive Officer of the DVLA, Mr. Julius Neequaye Kotey, said the establishment of the centre would significantly ease the burden on residents who previously had to travel long distances for basic DVLA services such as vehicle registration, licence renewals, and change of ownership.

“Change of ownership and other DVLA services can now be accessed right here in Dansoman. This initiative is a deliberate effort to bridge the service gap and make the DVLA more accessible to every Ghanaian. It is often heartbreaking to see people travel long distances just to receive basic services,” Mr. Kotey stated.

He further disclosed that at least 50 percent of staff at the Dansoman branch would be recruited from within the community as part of efforts to promote local employment and deepen community engagement in public service delivery.

“Our goal is to serve the community while creating job opportunities for the people who live here. At the same time, we will ensure that all staff are competent and well-trained to deliver quality service,” he added.

Mr. Kotey also emphasized the Authority’s commitment to eliminating corrupt practices and curbing the operations of middlemen, popularly known as ‘goro boys’.

“There will be no ‘goro’ activities here. All official charges will be boldly displayed for everyone to see so that customers receive genuine service at the right cost,” he assured.

The new facility is expected to ease pressure on existing DVLA centres and improve service delivery for residents in Dansoman and surrounding communities.

Mr. Kotey further announced that more offices will be established or rehabilitated in Swedru, Nalerigu, Walewale, Bole, Asamankese, and Mampong, with an ultra-modern regional complex currently under development in the Ashanti Region.

The Dansoman office is the seventh new DVLA centre to be operationalised within the last ten months, reflecting the Authority’s broader policy of expanding services through both government and private partnerships.
