Dr. Peter Boamah Otokunor, the Head of Inter-Party/CSO Relations of the the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has criticised the Electoral Commission for its failure to make its operations transparent.
The former Deputy General Secretary of the NDC was reacting to the alleged theft of five Biometric Verification Registration (BVR) devices of the EC which has been in the mdeia for close to a month.
The election management body, after series of denials, recently confirmed that some of its BVRs had been stolen from its stores, raising eyebrows in the country. As the main opposition NDC mounted pressure on the EC to find the equipment, the Commission reported that some staff had been interdicted in connection with the stolen BVRs.
In an interview with Oheneba Boamah Bennie on the Gumbe Show on TV XYZ, Otokunor was emphatic that the EC Chairperson, Jean Mensa had veered of the cardinal principles of that makes the commission trustworthy.
“The EC is supposed ton conduct elections in a free, fair and transparent manner but that cannot be seen and felt under the current leadership leadership of the EC. There is no truthfulness in the dealings of the EC,” Otokunor stated. “They [EC] is now working to help the NPP to stay in power.”
“Their rigging tactics were seen in 2020 that led to the killing of some 8 innocent Ghanaians at various polling stations and collation centres,” he added.
The NDC stalwart further urged Ghanaians who have been battered by the hardship caused by the mismanagement of the economy by the Akufo-Addo government to be vigilant on the election day and ensure that the will of Ghanaians is uphold.
“We the NDC and Ghanaians must be vigilant on that day and ensure that the election is not rigged,” he added.
