Her Excellency Dr. Fatima Maada Bio, First Lady of Sierra Leone and President of the Organisation of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD), and Her Excellency Fatoumatta Bah Barrow, First Lady of The Gambia, have arrived in Accra ahead of a high-level African First Ladies side event being held as part of the 23rd International Conference on AIDS and STIs in Africa (ICASA).
Thursday’s dialogue, hosted by Ghana’s First Lady, H.E. Lordina Dramani Mahama, will focus on Ending Mother-to-Child Transmission and the Triple Elimination of HIV, Syphilis, and Hepatitis B in Africa.

The meeting will also explore the critical role of women in leadership in combating stigma, abuse, and neglect of victims, particularly women and children, and discuss concrete measures to protect their rights.
Over the past decade, Mrs. Mahama and the Lordina Foundation have earned international recognition for their sustained advocacy in promoting public health and humanitarian support for vulnerable populations.
In 2013, she was appointed a Health Ambassador to support the Heart-to-Heart campaign and champion the welfare of people living with HIV in Ghana.

In February 2016, as President of the Organisation of African First Ladies Against HIV/AIDS (OAFLA), she delivered a widely praised message on proactive responses to HIV and the sexual and reproductive rights of young people at the 7th Africa Conference on Sexual Health and Rights in Accra.
Also expected to join the high-level dialogue in Accra are the First Ladies of Kenya, Liberia, and a former First Lady of South Africa.
