Kwabena Adu Boahene, former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), has been accused of embezzling state funds and laundering them through real estate investments both in Ghana and abroad.
According to Minister of Justice and Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine, Mr. Adu Boahene allegedly misappropriated $2,217,815 million by awarding state contracts to a private company he secretly founded, which closely mirrored the NSB’s operations. Reports suggest he managed this business alongside his wife.
Alleged Fraudulent Investments and Arrest
The alleged illegal investments include multiple properties in La, a suburb of Accra, and along the Accra-Akosombo stretch of the Eastern Corridor road.
He was arrested at Kotoka International Airport on March 20 upon his return from abroad by operatives of the National Investigations Bureau (NIB) and remains in detention.
Government’s Anti-Corruption Efforts
Dr. Ayine made these revelations at a March 24 press conference, where he also discussed the work of Operation Recover All Loots (ORAL)—a now-defunct anti-corruption agency established by the NDC government to recover stolen state assets.
Investigations into Mr. Adu Boahene’s alleged financial misconduct are ongoing, with more details expected to emerge in the coming weeks.|
