GES establishes committee to validate revoked teacher appointments

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has formed a three-member regional committee to validate teachers whose appointments were revoked last month.

The committee, comprising a regional human resource officer, a regional internal auditor, and a regional accountant, will oversee the validation process.

Affected staff are required to submit their appointment letters, academic certificates, licensure certificates, and national service certificates for verification. The validation process is set to be completed by March 14, 2025.

Background on Appointment Revocation

On February 17, 2025, the GES revoked the appointments of teaching and non-teaching staff who had not yet been placed on the government payroll.

The decision, which took immediate effect, was based on a directive from the Chief of Staff, as stated in a letter dated February 10, 2025.

A statement signed by Prof. Davis instructed all regional, district, municipal, and metropolitan directors of education to ensure strict compliance with the directive. It clarified that those whose appointments had been revoked would not be added to the payroll, effectively nullifying their employment. Further updates on the matter will be communicated in due course.

Recruitment Validation Process

This directive was outlined in a circular titled “Re: Revocation of Appointments and Recruitments”, signed by the acting Director-General of GES, Prof. Ernest Kofi Davis, and addressed to all regional directors of education.

The circular referenced an earlier letter dated February 17, 2025, emphasizing the need for all affected staff to have their recruitment validated and reinstated. The objective is to ensure an accurate database of all staff on the GES payroll.

The statement urged affected personnel to cooperate fully to facilitate a smooth validation process.

School Holiday Announcement

Meanwhile, the GES has declared today a holiday for all schoolchildren in Ghana.

This break is intended to allow students to rest after their participation in the Independence Day anniversary activities.

According to a statement signed by Cassandra Twum Ampofo, Head of the Public Relations Unit, schools will resume full academic activities on Monday, March 10, 2025.

“Parents and guardians are kindly advised to take note of this announcement. We regret any inconvenience this may cause,” the statement concluded.
