Ghana and Qatar have taken a significant step toward strengthening bilateral relations with the signing of a Labour Mobility Agreement on the sidelines of the Doha Forum 2025.
Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, signed the agreement on behalf of Ghana, while Qatar’s Minister of Labour, Dr. Ali bin Saeed bin Samikh Al Marri, signed for the State of Qatar.
Hon. Ablakwa noted that the agreement is designed to facilitate safe and structured labour migration while enhancing protection and improving working conditions for Ghanaian workers in Qatar.
He explained that the framework will open job opportunities for thousands of skilled Ghanaian youths in key sectors including aviation, tourism, information technology, logistics, transportation, and public health.
The Minister reaffirmed government’s commitment to creating sustainable employment for Ghanaian youth through pragmatic and future-oriented policies, both at home and abroad.
He further disclosed that Ghana is also preparing to negotiate similar labour cooperation agreements with Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Trinidad and Tobago, and other nations, in line with its broader strategy to expand bilateral partnerships and enhance global job opportunities for Ghanaians.
