Ghana Police arrest man impersonating officer in viral video

The Ghana Police Service has arrested Osei Kwame, also known as “Nsafufoo,” after a viral video showed him in a police uniform, intoxicated and impersonating an officer at Antoakrom in the Manso Nkwanta District of the Ashanti Region.

The Ghana Police Service shared this in a post on Threads App stating the arrest of the perpetraitor.

Kwame, the individual seen in viral footage wearing a police uniform at Antoakrom, has been arrested after public outcry.

He is facing criminal charges for unauthorized possession and use of a police uniform, a violation of Ghana’s laws on impersonation.

Police authorities stressed a zero-tolerance stance on such acts, citing the potential to erode public trust.

Investigations are ongoing to uncover how he obtained the uniform and what he intended to do with it.

He remains in custody pending further questioning.

The swift arrest highlights the importance of protecting public trust in law enforcement by safeguarding the integrity of official uniforms.

Unauthorized use of police apparel not only risks serious security breaches but also undermines confidence in legitimate officers.

The incident serves as a clear deterrent, reinforcing that impersonation of security personnel will be met with strict legal consequences.

Court proceedings will determine the legal consequences for the suspect, with formal charges and trial details expected soon.

The investigation may trigger a broader review of how police uniforms are secured and distributed to prevent future impersonation.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service is likely to step up public awareness campaigns, urging citizens to verify officer credentials before complying with directives, as part of efforts to rebuild trust and deter similar incidents.
