Ghana to strengthen global partnerships against cybercrime  – Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has announced that the government will intensify its cooperation with international partners and agencies to strengthen Ghana’s response to cybercrime.

The move comes amid a surge in cases of online fraud, romance scams, sextortion, impersonation, and other digital-offenses affecting both local and international victims.

Between May and July 2025, a joint operation by the Cyber Security Authority (CSA) and the Police CID resulted in 65 arrests linked to online fraud and cybercrime, including both local and foreign suspects.

The intelligence-led raids in Dodowa, Teshie-Nungua, Bortianor-Ngleshie, Amanfro, and Sogakope uncovered laptops, mobile phones, and specialist internet equipment.

Building on these gains, President Mahama has outlined plans to expand global cooperation in cyber security.

Proposed measures include stronger data and intelligence sharing with foreign agencies and tech firms, updated legal and extradition frameworks, enhanced training for law enforcement and digital forensics experts, and public-private partnerships with companies like Meta to fight impersonation and fraud.

Despite progress, challenges remain. Ghana will need to overcome gaps in technical infrastructure, legal and jurisdictional hurdles, limited public awareness of online scams, and resource constraints.

Officials stress that sustained investment and international collaboration will be critical to tackling the fast-evolving threat of cybercrime.
