Ghana would’ve been like Dubai if NDC borrowed up to GH¢650bn- Mahama

Former President and Flag Bearer of National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Mahama has lashed out at the Nana Akufo Addo- Bawumia led government for borrowing so much but have very little to show in terms of development.

In his opinion, Ghana should be way advanced in terms of infrastructure if what was bequeathed to the President Akufo Addo in January 2017 is compared to what has been added with over Six Hundred and Fifty (GH¢650) billion cedis borrowed within the last seven to eight years.

Addressing party supporters and traders at the Ho Market on Wednesday, August 14, 2024 as part of his Campaign tour of the Volta region, Mr. Mahama said

“Governments are supposed to borrow for development. But what is there to show for the billions they added?

Comparing what Ghanaians witnessed with a little over 100billion cedis borrowed under the Mills- Mahama administration, the NDC flagbearer said Ghana could have figuratively as he put it, been like Dubai, it his government had added so much in terms of infrastructure, to the national debt.

“If NDC had borrowed GH¢650 billion, Ghana would be looking like Dubai by now” he explained
