Gov’t commits Gh₵110 million to adwumawura programme to tackle youth unemployment

The Government of Ghana, under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama, has taken a significant step towards empowering the country’s growing youth population with the allocation of GH₵110 million to support the nationwide rollout of the Adwumawura Programme, a bold initiative aimed at addressing youth unemployment and driving innovation.

The announcement was made by the Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment, George Opare Addo, during the Government Accountability Series at Jubilee House on Monday.

Mr. Opare Addo explained that the allocation, made possible through the Ministry of Finance under the leadership of Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson, reflects the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government’s unwavering commitment to creating meaningful job opportunities and fostering entrepreneurship among young Ghanaians.

“In further proof of government’s unrelenting support for youth empowerment, an amount of GH₵110 million has been allocated this year for the operationalisation of the Adwumawura Programme,” the Minister stated.

“This significant investment sends a clear message: we are not merely making promises—we are taking action to secure the future of our youth and reshape the trajectory of our nation.”

Launched by President Mahama on April 28, 2025, at the Prempeh Assembly Hall in Kumasi, the Adwumawura Programme is designed to create, mentor, and support at least 10,000 businesses annually, targeting enterprising youth aged 18 to 35.

Beneficiaries will be provided with a full support package comprising entrepreneurship and business development training, access to startup capital, modern equipment, and mentorship from experienced professionals.

Mr. Opare Addo emphasized that the programme is not just about job creation but about building sustainable enterprises that will contribute meaningfully to national development.

“This initiative is about unlocking the vast potential of our youth. It will nurture a new generation of entrepreneurs and business leaders equipped to transform our economy,” he said.

As the Adwumawura Programme rolls out across the country, it is expected to become a game-changer in Ghana’s youth empowerment landscape, catalyzing innovation, employment, and inclusive growth for years to come.
