GSFP begins nationwide practical training for school feeding caterers

The Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP) has rolled out a nationwide practical training programme for caterers and head cooks in beneficiary schools, aimed at improving the quality, safety, and nutritional value of meals served to pupils across the country.

The training, which spans all sixteen regions, is being implemented in collaboration with key stakeholders, including the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Women in Agricultural Development (WIAD) Directorate of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture.

The programme places strong emphasis on nutrition, hygiene, food safety, and best practices in meal preparation.

It is designed to equip caterers with both theoretical knowledge and hands-on skills to ensure the consistent delivery of safe, nutritious, and high-quality meals to schoolchildren.

To enhance coordination and ensure nationwide coverage, the country has been divided into Southern, Middle, and Northern belts, with training sessions being conducted at eighty-two designated centres nationwide.

The practical training officially commenced on December 15, 2025, and is currently ongoing in the Bono, Volta, and Oti regions.

Training in the remaining regions is expected to follow in line with the implementation schedule.

According to the GSFP, the initiative forms part of broader efforts to strengthen service delivery under the programme and to safeguard the health and well-being of pupils in beneficiary schools nationwide.
