Hamas has agreed to a peace deal brokered by President Donald Trump, ending the two-year Gaza conflict that began with the terrorist group’s attack on Israel on October 7, 2023. The assault, the deadliest for Jews since the Holocaust, triggered a devastating war and humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip. The agreement secures the release of hostages and aims to establish lasting peace.
In a Truth Social post on Wednesday, Trump announced: “I am very proud to announce that Israel and Hamas have both signed off on the first Phase of our Peace Plan. This means that ALL of the Hostages will be released very soon, and Israel will withdraw their Troops to an agreed upon line as the first steps toward a Strong, Durable, and Everlasting Peace. All Parties will be treated fairly! This is a GREAT Day for the Arab and Muslim World, Israel, all surrounding Nations, and the United States of America, and we thank the mediators from Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey, who worked with us to make this Historic and Unprecedented Event happen. BLESSED ARE THE PEACEMAKERS!”
In an interview with Sean Hannity, Trump indicated that the hostages are expected to be released by Monday. He did not confirm whether he would visit the region, though Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu invited him to address the Israeli parliament on Sunday.
Just before Trump’s announcement, images from the Sharm el-Sheikh negotiation room showed senior officials, including retired General Nitzan Alon and Qatar’s Prime Minister Al-Thani, shaking hands, with special envoy Steve Witkoff present, signaling a breakthrough in the hostage release agreement.
Hamas leader Khalil al-Hayya and other senior officials were seen smiling, signaling optimism about the peace agreement. An Israeli source indicated that preparations for an official announcement are in progress, with some officials anticipating the deal’s signing as early as Thursday. Israeli media reported that Israel and Hamas will finalize the agreement on Thursday in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared, “With God’s help, we will bring every hostage home.” In a Hebrew statement, he added, “This is a momentous day for Israel. Tomorrow, I will convene the government to ratify the agreement and secure the release of all our beloved hostages. I extend my gratitude to the brave IDF soldiers and security forces whose courage and sacrifice made this possible. I also deeply thank President Trump and his team for their unwavering commitment to this sacred mission of freeing our hostages. With divine guidance, we will continue to achieve our goals and foster peace with our neighbors.”
Hamas issued an official statement, saying, “Following earnest and responsible negotiations led by the movement and Palestinian resistance factions regarding President Trump’s proposal in Sharm el-Sheikh, aimed at halting the war of extermination against our Palestinian people and securing the withdrawal of the occupation from Gaza, Hamas announces an agreement that ends the Gaza conflict, ensures the withdrawal of occupying forces, facilitates the delivery of humanitarian aid, and implements a prisoner exchange.”
