The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has outlined measures to make promotions within the Ghana Police Service more transparent and credible.
Appearing before the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, the Minister said government is working to correct past mistakes and ensure fairness in the promotion process.
According to him, the new system is designed to rebuild public confidence and strengthen trust among police officers.
“Although we are trying to promote officers, there are some of them who cannot become an IGP.
How can a PRO become IGP if this officer doesn’t know anything about operations or has not been to any operational duty?” he asked.
Mr. Mohammed-Mubarak stressed that the reforms are intended not only to create opportunities but also to ensure that promotions reflect competence, merit, and operational experience.
