Interlocutory injunction on the national paralympic committee (NPC) – Ghana and Mr. Samson Deen (president)

The National Paralympic Athletes’ Commission of Ghana wishes to update the sports community and all relevant authorities on recent legal developments concerning the National Paralympic Committee (NPC) of Ghana and its stakeholders.

On September 4, the High Court in Accra issued an interlocutory injunction against the NPC and its President, Mr. Samson Deen, following a legal suit over the Committee’s failure to conduct elections in line with constitutional requirements.

The action further highlights broader concerns about the Committee’s disregard for its Constitution throughout the current tenure.

This legal action has become necessary to uphold integrity and justice, given the repeated violations of the Constitution and to prevent further ableism, abuse of privilege, irregularities, illegalities, unprofessional conduct, and unruly behavior by any official entrusted with national disability sports in Ghana.

Following the court’s ruling, the Commission will take practical steps to collaborate with all legitimate federations in good standing, national stakeholders, and the National Sports Authority.

In line with best practices established by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), and consistent with its precedents, the Commission proposes the constitution of an ad hoc committee/elective board composed of eminent persons.

This body will facilitate proper and fair elections in accordance with the NPC Constitution.

In the interim, we respectfully caution all concerned parties to refrain from any actions that may constitute abetment of, or contempt for, the court’s directives.

We further urge all individuals and organizations to discontinue any engagements or dealings with the injuncted NPC President, Mr. Samson Deen, the NPC of Ghana, or any representatives purporting to act on their behalf, in any capacity, regardless of the perceived importance.

The Commission acknowledges the difficulties that have led to this temporary setback for the NPC and remains committed to restoring transparency, accountability, and fair representation in the governance of disability sports in Ghana.
