Iran fires more than 100 drones at Israel following strikes on nuclear facilities

Iran launched over 100 drones toward Israel in retaliation for Israeli airstrikes targeting Iranian nuclear facilities, ballistic missile factories, and military commanders.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed the drone attack, stating that their air defenses were actively working to intercept the threats, with some drones expected to take several hours to reach Israeli airspace.

The Israeli strikes, part of “Operation Rising Lion,” aimed to disrupt Iran’s nuclear program and military capabilities, killing key figures such as Revolutionary Guard commander Maj. Gen. Hossein Salami and nuclear scientists Fereydoon Abbasi and Mohammad Mahdi Tehranchi. Iranian state media reported civilian casualties, including children, in residential areas of Tehran and Natanz, though these claims could not be independently verified.

The U.S. denied involvement in the Israeli operation, with Secretary of State Marco Rubio emphasizing that Israel acted unilaterally.

Regional tensions escalated, with Iraq and Jordan closing their airspace and international calls for de-escalation from leaders like UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

The situation remains volatile, with Israel declaring a state of emergency and anticipating further Iranian retaliation.
