Ken Ofori-Atta petitions OSP for virtual engagement due to health challenges

Former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has requested to participate in a virtual session with the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) due to health complications that prevent him from attending in person.

His legal team has submitted medical documentation detailing his condition and upcoming surgical procedures to both the OSP and the Human Rights Court.

The Human Rights Court has scheduled a ruling on this matter for June 18, 2025.The OSP has not yet responded to the request for a virtual session.

Ofori-Atta’s legal team has cited provisions under the Electronic Transactions Act to support the feasibility of conducting the session remotely.

The OSP’s investigations into Ofori-Atta involve several high-profile cases, including contracts related to revenue assurance in the petroleum and minerals sectors.

The termination of a contract between the Electricity Company of Ghana and Beijing Xiao Cheng Technology, procurement activities for the National Cathedral project, a contract for ambulances for the National Ambulance Service, and the use of the Ghana Revenue Authority’s Tax Refund Account.

As the situation develops, the OSP’s decision on whether to accept the virtual session request remains pending.
