The Wa High Court has sentenced 33-year-old Elisha Mahama Akpanichie to life imprisonment for the murder of Mr. Eric Johnson, the Chief Executive Officer of the Royal Cosy Hills Hotel, popularly known as Jirapa Dubai, in the Upper West Region.
According to a statement from the Upper West Regional Police Command, the tragic incident occurred on February 11, 2024, when the convict brutally murdered Mr. Johnson and fled the scene.
Police launched an intelligence-led operation that led to his swift arrest in the Central Region.
Following extensive investigations and the presentation of strong evidence, the Wa High Court, presided over by Justice Alhaji Yussif Assibey, found Akpanichie guilty of murder and sentenced him to life imprisonment to be served at the Ankaful Maximum Security Prison.
The court, however, acquitted and discharged two other persons — Belinda Miller and Kweku Kumbata, who were also standing trial in connection with the case.
The Regional Police Command commended the investigators, prosecutors, witnesses, and members of the public who assisted in the case, describing the verdict as a “significant outcome” in the pursuit of justice.
It reiterated its commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring justice for all victims of crime in the region.
The statement was signed by ACP Faare Aare, Upper West Regional Police Commander.
