The Lordina Foundation has commissioned a 12-bed Maternal and Children’s Ward at Bodom in the NKORANZA North constituency of the Bono East region
The ultra modern facility is fully equipped with a neo-natal and intensive care unit, a delivery ward, furnished housing for nurses to ensure a 24-hour standby service, a maternity ward and a storage room.
It compliments a small CHIPS compound at the same location built by then Mahama administration.
The project, is expected expected to benefit over 13,000 in five major towns including Tanfianie, Nadowli, Senya Kokompe and nearby communities.
Speaking at the commissioning of the facility on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, Mrs. Lordina Mahama, a native of Bodom said it must be the priority of every nation that no woman should go to labour and not return.
“Maternal health is not just a woman’s issue but a national issue. When a mother receives quality healthcare,it contributes to the well being. Her child is more likely to survive, her family will be more secure and her community will be stronger” she emphasized
“This beautiful initiative will make basic health care free and accessible to all. The Lordina Foundation is committed to empowering women and children all areas of life” she said
It is for this reason the Lordina Foundation is working to drastically reduce the numbers and ensure free healthcare and safe delivery for all.
Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Former President John Mahama who commissioned the projects said the NDC’s health infrastructure agenda is on course and the party will continue to make healthcare affordable to all.
He was particularly worried about the number of renal treatments in the country.
“We intend to open modern dialysis centers within reach of every Ghanaian because we seem to have a pandemic of diseases” he stated
This is the third time in 2-years of commissioning such a facility by the Lordina Foundation.
The first was a 40-bed facility in Bole in the Savannah Region. She later commissioned a 33 bed facility in Nkoranza before the latest at Bodom.
Data from the Ghana Health Service indicates that the maternal mortality rate stands at about 310 deaths per every 100,000 live births. This is far above the global target of 70 deaths per every 100,000 lives births.
Mr. Mahama later in the day also commissioned a maternity ward in Atetebu at the request of the Chiefs and people of the area said the next NDC administration will ensure free basic health care for all Ghanaians under the Mahama cares initiatives.
