Mahama clears speculation; says defence and environment ministers will be appointed in 2026

President John Dramani Mahama has dismissed widespread speculation about imminent appointments to the Defence and Environment, Science and Technology ministries, clarifying that those positions will be filled in 2026.

Speaking during a courtesy call by the Ghana Muslims Mission on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, the President urged the public to disregard social media reports suggesting that new ministers would be named in the coming days.

“They say Allah gives and Allah takes. He took two of our comrades, and we haven’t filled those positions yet,” President Mahama said. “I can see people speculating that I’m going to appoint a new Defence Minister or a new Environment Minister.”

He stressed that government is not in a hurry to make the appointments.

“We’re not in a hurry,” he noted. “After the Christmas and New Year holidays, we will fill those positions. So those speculating that somebody is going to be appointed tomorrow should take their time. Go and enjoy Christmas, and after the holiday we will take a decision.”

President Mahama’s remarks formally put to rest weeks of speculation surrounding potential reshuffles within his administration.
