Mahama sets 24-month deadline for contractors under ‘big push’ projects

Contractors engaged under government’s flagship infrastructure programme, The Big Push, have been given a maximum of 24 months to complete their projects.

President John Mahama explained that the two-year completion window is realistic, given the scope of work, and will ensure timely delivery without overburdening contractors.

So far, two local firms, Oswal Investments Limited and First Sky Company Limited, have been awarded contracts under the programme. Oswal is tasked with reconstructing the 24.8-kilometre Dodowa–Afienya road in the Greater Accra Region, while First Sky is expected to complete the 176.4-kilometre Atimpoku–Aflao road within the same timeframe.

President Mahama announced the directive during a sod-cutting ceremony at Afienya on Tuesday, September 16, 2025.

He later performed a similar ceremony for the Atimpoku–Aflao project at Atitrinu in the Ho Municipality of the Volta Region.

The President underscored the significance of the projects, noting that they will ease traffic congestion, boost trade, and accelerate socio-economic development along the corridors.

Government is expected to invest about USD 10 million in infrastructure over the next five years under The Big Push.
