Majority rejects minority’s call for minister Sam George to resign

The Majority caucus in Parliament has dismissed renewed demands from the Minority that Minister Samuel Nartey George (Communications, Digital Technology & Innovation) resign over his handling of the DStv subscription pricing dispute.

The Minority in Parliament has intensified pressure on Communications Minister Sam George, accusing him of misleading the public and failing to deliver a promised 30% cut in DStv subscription fees.

Led by Charles Owiredu, Deputy Ranking Member on the Communications Committee, the Minority demanded that the Minister issue an unqualified apology, resign or be dismissed, and refund fees levied on subscribers.

The Majority, however, dismissed these calls, arguing that the Minister has engaged MultiChoice on consumer concerns and helped push for value upgrades and promotional packages.

They insisted that the DStv promotions were not solely due to the Minister’s intervention but reflected the company’s broader corporate strategy.

The clash highlights growing public frustration with the rising cost of pay-TV services and mounting expectations for government intervention.

Analysts note that while political tensions are running high, the Minister’s fate will hinge on public sentiment and whether evidence emerges that he knowingly misled the public.
