Vice President of Ghana, H.E. Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, has issued a powerful call for deeper collaboration and integration across Africa’s energy landscape at the 2025 Africa Energy Technology Conference in Accra.
Speaking with conviction, she urged African nations to harness their immense energy potential through coordinated trade, strategic infrastructure investment, and cutting-edge innovation pillars she described as essential for the continent’s socio-economic transformation.
“Africa’s energy narrative is not one of scarcity, but of unparalleled richness,” Prof. Opoku-Agyemang declared, citing the continent’s abundant solar, wind, hydro, and mineral resources.
She emphasized that Africa’s challenge lies not in a lack of resources, but in the need for seamless regional integration.
The Vice President stressed that intra-African energy trade must move beyond statistics and market transactions to deliver tangible impact powering schools, energizing clinics, fueling industries, and empowering entrepreneurs across the continent.
She lauded regional mechanisms such as the West African Power Pool (WAPP) and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) as critical enablers of energy and economic integration.
Reaffirming Ghana’s strong commitment to regional cooperation, she remarked, “Every watt traded across borders is a stride toward collective prosperity.”
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang also highlighted Ghana’s leadership in clean and sustainable energy initiatives, particularly at the household level.
These include the National LPG Promotion Policy and the Cylinder Recirculation Model, aimed at enhancing safe and efficient energy use.
She further noted Ghana’s commitment to value addition in the mining of critical minerals such as lithium, cobalt, and nickel essential for clean technology manufacturing and global energy transitions.
Concluding her remarks, the Vice President issued a clarion call to African leaders, innovators, and development partners to view energy not just as a utility, but also as a catalyst for sovereignty, prosperity, and continental unity.
