The National Service Authority (NSA), in collaboration with the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), has confirmed that a pilot phase of a six‑week Basic Military Orientation Programme will commence on August 31, 2025, involving 10,000 national service personnel.
Participation is entirely voluntary for this inaugural cohort.
The National Service Emergency Response Readiness Programme (NSERRP), introduced under the 2024 National Service Authority Act and announced by President Mahama, is designed to build leadership, discipline, resilience, and civic responsibility among graduates without militarising them.
Training begins on August 31, 2025, for two cohorts of 10,000 participants each, selected through voluntary registration.
The programme will not affect final service placements, which will follow after orientation. It aims to support national development in areas such as emergency response, public health, and environmental management.
From 2026, participation is expected to become mandatory for all national service personnel, potentially involving up to 100,000 people annually.
The pilot phase will guide expansion and improvements, with further collaboration planned between the National Service Authority, the Ghana Armed Forces, and other state bodies to enhance implementation and logistics.
The scheduled launch of military-style training on August 31, 2025, marks a bold step in reshaping Ghana’s national service framework.
Beginning with 10,000 volunteers, the programme seeks to instil greater discipline, civic-mindedness, and readiness in young graduates signalling a new model of national service aligned with President Mahama’s vision for youth-led national transformation.
