NDC must be quick in prosecuting looters of state assets under Akufo-Addo – Fmr NPP MP

Former MP for Nsuta-Kwamang-Beposo in the Ashanti Region, Kwame Asafu-Adjei has bemoaned the pace at which the Mahama administration is prosecuting NPP officials who looted the state under the previous Akufo-Addo government.

Reacting to the detention of the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Chairman Wontumi) by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), the former legislator commended the state security officials for going after persons who broke the law under the previous regime.

“Wontumi is my nephew; I know him very well, but I thought laws are now working since the former president, Nana Akufo-Addo, did not crack the whip,” he said in an interview with Piesie Okrah on Dwaboase on TV XYZ.

Mr Asafu-Adjei noted that Wontumi flouted the laws by engaging in illegal mining and other crimes which harmed some Ghanaians.

To him, a lot of officials took the laws into their hands under the NPP government which caused the nation financially, and opined that such persons have to face the rigors of the law.

“Wontumi flouted many laws with his operations, and he must answer questions,” he noted.

Asafu-Adjei ruled out persecution in the matter and urged the government to go after persons who conspicuously violated the laws under Akufo-Addo.

“I think the NDC is being slow. They should be prosecuting many of such people,” he added.

He said the government should arrest people who looted the state to serve as a deterrent to public office holders.
