The National Identification Authority (NIA) has stepped up efforts to protect the integrity of Ghana’s national identity system with a one-day orientation and training programme for officers of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service.
The training, held on January 23, 2026, at the NIA Headquarters, forms part of preparations for the deployment of CID officers to all 16 regions to support investigations linked to the registration and issuance of the Ghana Card.
The session aimed to deepen the officers’ understanding of NIA operations and equip them with the skills required to effectively investigate issues arising from Ghana Card registration processes.
Participants were taken through the Authority’s policies on first-time registration, personal information updates and other core operational procedures.
The training also highlighted common infractions committed by both applicants and staff, drawing on operational statistics and practical case experiences from the NIA’s CID Unit.
Additionally, officers were briefed on investigative procedures, system integrations and key technical processes within the national identity ecosystem, offering practical insights into safeguarding data integrity and enhancing accountability.
Officers who participated in the programme described the training as practical, informative and relevant, noting that it has better positioned them to support investigations and data protection efforts at the regional level.
In a related development, the NIA has further strengthened its internal capacity through a four-day ISO certification training programme for its staff. The training, conducted in four cohorts, focused on Information Security Management Systems (ISMS) and IT Service Management (ITSM), equipping staff with in-depth knowledge of international best practices in data security and service delivery.
These capacity-building initiatives underscore the NIA’s broader commitment to institutional strengthening, operational excellence and compliance with internationally recognised standards, reinforcing its position as a world-class provider of identity services.
