The Eastern South Regional Police Command has arrested ten suspects and retrieved nine firearms in a series of operations in Akwatia as part of heightened security measures ahead of the upcoming by-election.
The seized weapons include eight pump-action guns and one locally manufactured single-barrel gun.
Police say the operations are part of intensified efforts to prevent unlawful possession and use of weapons during the electoral process.
On August 22, 2025, near St. Dominic Hospital, officers intercepted a vehicle driven by Bernard Kumi Ofosu and retrieved a Tulpar double-barrel pump-action gun, four AAA live cartridges, and two FTB blank cartridges.
The suspect, who produced a valid license, is in custody assisting investigations, while the exhibits undergo verification.
At the Akwatia Y-Junction snap check, Joshua Amenuku was arrested with 15 live BB cartridges.
A subsequent search of his residence uncovered an ADLER TULPA pump-action gun and five additional cartridges.
Later that evening, Police arrested Enoch Asiedu and Lu Youyan, a Chinese national, at the Boadua Livingstone checkpoint after retrieving four live BB cartridges from their Toyota Hilux.
The ammunition was reportedly linked to their employer, identified only as Mohammed, who is currently being sought by Police.
On August 23, 2025, at the same checkpoint, Police arrested Pieterson Joseph after discovering an ADLER TULPAR pump-action gun and 46 cartridges in his vehicle. The suspect admitted ownership.
That same day at Staff Village, Boadua, Police intercepted a Toyota Tundra (WR 5535-13) and retrieved three pump-action guns, Pardus, Hulglu Atroe, and another unidentified brand.
The driver, Stephen Nkansah, claimed ownership of two and alleged the third belonged to his chief. He has since been detained for further investigation.
The Eastern South Regional Police Command assured the public that security operations will be intensified to ensure peace, law, and order before, during, and after the Akwatia By-Election.
