President Mahama details Ghana’s comprehensive three-pillar approach

The President John Dramani Mahama has detailed Ghana’s comprehensive approach to transforming its own healthcare landscape, built on three main pillars namely:

Ghana Medical Trust Fund: A dedicated fund to finance specialized medical treatments for citizens.

Universal Free Primary Healthcare: A program focusing heavily on prevention, community care, and leveraging digital health services.

Health Infrastructure Development: A nationwide initiative to upgrade existing facilities with advanced equipment (imaging, diagnostics, laboratories, dialysis) and expand specialized services through strategic public-private partnerships (PPPs).

The message according to the President, extends as a clarion call to international partners to transition from traditional aid models to genuine co-investment in Africa’s health industrialization.

The continent offers a fertile ground for manufacturing vaccines, biologics, generics, diagnostics, and medical devices, supported by the growing market of the African Continental Free Trade Area, a vibrant innovation ecosystem, and aligned political will.

The President emphasized Africa is ready for partnerships based on shared values and mutual benefit, not dependency.

The summit aims to engage all stakeholders, from healthcare professionals and innovators to young entrepreneurs and international partners, to drive concrete actions and shape a healthier, more resilient future for Africa and the world.
