The Deputy Minister of Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry, Mr. Sampson Ahi, has announced that the Mahama-led government will give agribusiness exports a major boost in the coming months.
He said the government is set to unveil a comprehensive agribusiness export policy in July to help boost international market access for Ghanaian farmers and processors.
The Minister who is also the Legislator for Bodi made this known on Saturday, June 21, during the Channel One TV’s AgriFair 2025.
The new policy, he said, will define strategic support systems and incentive structures for exporters in the country .
Mr Ahi noted that the policy will also serve as a roadmap to expand agricultural production and increase value addition to local produce.
“I am sure we will launch it somewhere next month,” Ahi disclosed.
“When we do that we will engage the exporters so that they can take advantage of what government has for them.”
The Deputy Minister also highlighted President John Mahama’s leadership in driving sustainable export growth, revealing that the President is personally chairing a national committee focused on enhancing the export of locally produced goods.
He stressed the importance of value addition in making Ghanaian products competitive on the global market.
“The president is talking about sustainable exports and he is chairing a committee to make sure that we export what we produce.
“If we want to do exports then we have to add value to whatever we produce and I have seen that a lot of farmers are adding value to their produce, they are packaging very neatly so most farmers are now ready for the international market,” he stated.
Mr. Ahi added that the forthcoming agribusiness export policy will not only spell out the government’s support framework but also foster direct engagement with stakeholders to ensure inclusive and effective implementation.
