President Mahama swears-in Constitution Review Committee

President John Mahama has noted that the composition of the Constitution Review Committee is not for political expediency but based on the integrity of members and their commitment to Ghana’s progress.

According to him, the clarion by Ghanaians for reforms, must not be seen as total rejection of the blueprint that has guarded governance under the 4th Republic, but necessary for recommendations to address abuse, ambiguities for the progress of this counry.

“The task before you is critical. You are not just reviewing reports and proposing amendments. You are helping to shape the future of our dear nation Ghana”,  he explained

President Mahama admitted the task ahead is huge especially because of the high expectations and urged the Committee, Chaired by Prof H Kwesi Prempeh, Executive Director of the Center for Democratic Development, CDD-Ghana to critically look into the previous work by the Professor Fiadzo Committee report commissioned by the late President, Prof. Evans Atta Mills and the Clara Kassa Tee Constitutional Review Consultative Committee in 2023 under then President Nana Akufo Addo in 2023.

“This process must not become another chapter in the history of unfulfilled reform efforts. It must be a turning point, a moment when Ghana moves decisively from discussions to action” he emphasized.

He advised the Committee to consult widely to ensure the best for Ghana
President Mahama expressed confidence in the committee and pledged his government’s support to help them succeed

“I understand the weight of responsibility that comes with this task. And I assure that your work will not be in vain. This will not be an exercise in futility. We are determined to see this process through and I have every confidence in your ability to deliver results that will serve both the present and future generation of Ghanaians ” he intimated

Adding that “I take great pride in the composition of this committee. You have not been chosen out of political consideration but for your integrity, expertise and commitment to Ghana’s progress ”

The committee is chaired by Professor Kwesi H. Prempeh and Rainer Akumperigeya as secretary. Other Members of the committee include former Chairperson Charlotte Osei, Dr Esi Ansah, Ibrahim Tanko Amidu, Dr. Godwin Djokoto, and Justice Sophia Adinyira.
