Ridge hospital assault: committee finds no evidence of nurse’s shoulder dislocation

The ministerial committee probing last month’s Ridge Hospital assault has ruled out claims that a nurse sustained a dislocated shoulder during the incident.

Committee chair Dr. Lawrence Ofori-Boadu said medical checks showed no fracture in the left wrist and no dislocation in the right shoulder joint of Rejoice Tsotso Bortei, who reported injuries a day after the confrontation on August 18.

The committee noted that the rotation nurse was treated with pain relief, advised to rest, and offered psychological support, but stressed that earlier reports of more serious injuries were inaccurate.

Its findings directly challenge widespread accounts that the clash between relatives of a patient and hospital staff resulted in severe physical harm.

Meanwhile, Bortei has filed a civil suit against social media personality Ralph Saint Williams (known online as Ralph De Fellow Ghanaian), seeking GH¢7 million in damages for alleged assault and defamation.
