Sammy Gyamfi under scrutiny by Chief of Staff over cash gift to Nana Agradaa

The Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, has summoned Sammy Gyamfi, Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board, following the emergence of a viral video showing him giving an undisclosed amount of foreign currency reportedly in US dollars to evangelist and former fetish priestess, Patricia Oduro Koranteng, popularly known as Nana Agradaa.

The footage, widely circulated on social media, captures Mr. Gyamfi handing over the cash to Agradaa, who then displays it to onlookers.

This incident has sparked public criticism and raised questions about the ethical conduct expected of public officeholders, especially in light of President John Dramani Mahama’s recently launched Code of Conduct for Public Officials, which emphasizes integrity, transparency, and accountability.

In response to the backlash, Mr. Gyamfi issued a public apology on May 11, describing the act as a personal gesture of generosity that was never intended for public attention.

He expressed regret over the incident, acknowledging it as an unfortunate act of indiscretion.

The Chief of Staff is treating the matter with utmost seriousness due to its potential political implications and the reputational impact on the administration.

Mr. Gyamfi has been requested to present himself before the Chief of Staff to clarify the circumstances surrounding the controversial gesture.

The incident has also drawn attention from civil society groups, with calls for appropriate action to uphold the standards of public office and maintain public trust.

As the situation unfolds, further developments are anticipated regarding any administrative or disciplinary measures that may be taken in response to the incident.
