President Tharman Shanmugaratnam of Singapore has lauded President John Dramani Mahama for his leadership in steering Ghana through economic challenges and prioritizing job creation.
“Ghana must succeed for West Africa and Africa to succeed,” President Tharman said, commending Mahama’s management of the country’s debt situation and efforts to expand employment opportunities.
The remarks were made during bilateral talks in Singapore, where President Mahama is on a three-day State Visit.
Tharman noted that Mahama’s address at the Africa Singapore Business Forum underscored the strength of Ghana-Singapore relations and the shared commitment to sustainable development.
Highlighting climate cooperation, the Singaporean leader pointed to a landmark agreement.
Singapore is the first Asian country to sign an implementation deal on carbon credits with Ghana, while Ghana is the first African nation to do so with Singapore.
Looking ahead, Tharman outlined areas for deepened collaboration, including agribusiness and downstream processing of cashew and cocoa, as well as fintech, cross-border payment systems, and support for small and medium-sized enterprises.
“We are ready and glad to pursue these opportunities together,” he said, signalling Singapore’s intent to mobilize investment, technology, and skills alongside Ghana to drive inclusive growth.
President Mahama will conclude his State Visit with an address at a Presidential Business Forum.
