Chief of Staff Julius Debrah has reiterated government’s commitment to supporting small and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs), describing them as the backbone of Ghana’s economy.
Speaking at the 10th edition of the This Is Ghana Exhibition in Accra on Sunday, Mr. Debrah praised the resilience and ingenuity of Ghanaian entrepreneurs, stressing that their contribution is central to driving growth and creating jobs.
“We recognise the power of SMEs as the backbone of our economy. This is why we are committed to policies that will make it easier for you, the real drivers of the economy,” he said.
The two-day exhibition at the Efua Sutherland Children’s Park featured over 300 exhibitors showcasing locally made products, services and innovations.
From crafts, fashion, packaged foods and hospitality to FMCGs and automobiles, the fair highlighted the diversity of Ghana’s entrepreneurial space.
Live performances from groups such as Kwan Pa and the Nkyinkyim Band gave the event a cultural touch, while patrons enjoyed discounts, networking and entertainment.
Highlighting the government’s 24-hour economy policy, Mr. Debrah explained that it is designed to expand opportunities for businesses, remove bottlenecks, and reflect the ambition of local entrepreneurs.
He commended the participation of key institutions such as the Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA), EXIM Bank and the Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA), stressing that collaboration was critical to scaling up indigenous businesses.
“Our fabrics, our foods, our crafts, our technology solutions, all of these reflect a Ghanaian identity that is strong, unique and world-class,” he added.
Mr. Debrah urged exhibitors to see themselves not just as traders but as custodians of the country’s future, noting that persistence, quality and innovation were key to placing Ghana on the global map.
“As government, we pledge to continue building the enabling environment, providing support, and listening to you, because your success is Ghana’s success,” he assured.
