Richard Akpokavie has been elected as the new president of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) in a landslide victory, securing 44 votes against his opponent Michael Aggrey’s 19 votes . This win marks a significant turnaround for Akpokavie, who previously lost the presidential bid in 2021 by a narrow margin of seven votes.
Akpokavie’s experience and leadership skills likely contributed to his victory. He served as General Secretary of the GOC from 2017 to 2021 and was a former athlete, captaining Ghana’s national hockey team . His deep connection to Ghanaian sports and administrative expertise is expected to drive the GOC’s mission to promote and develop Olympic sports across the country.
The 2025 GOC Elective Congress also elected other key positions, including Vice President, Treasurer, and Executive Board members, to support the GOC’s strategic objectives ahead of upcoming international competitions, including the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

Fede Valverde’s message to Real Madrid fans.
“It happened again. And it will surely happen again many more times, because it is the road we are building, and it is normal that one falls after so many miles. It makes me sad, it makes me angry, impotent. I feel like I failed you. It’s been a difficult year, physically and mentally very tough, but one day I was clear: ‘until my legs don’t give up anymore’. This club doesn’t deserve less. We’ll be back, we’ll continue and there I’ll be leaving everything for the respect Madrid deserves, its people and everything that involves playing in the most winning team in history. Thank you”.
