The Government of Ghana has outlined a comprehensive series of events to honor the eight individuals who tragically perished in the military helicopter crash on August 6.
The arrangements include reflection services, books of condolence, and a state funeral to pay tribute to their service.
Ghana will mark the loss of its fallen leaders with a series of national commemorations.
An Evening of Reflection and Memorial will take place at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 9, at the Forecourt of the State House, featuring musical tributes and moments of national introspection.
From Sunday, August 10, to Thursday, August 14, Books of Condolence will be open at key institutions, including the Defence and Environment ministries, the Foreign Affairs Ministry, Ghana Armed Forces Headquarters, NDC Headquarters, and NADMO Headquarters.
The commemorations will culminate in a State Funeral Service on Friday, August 15, beginning at 8:00 a.m. at Black Star Square in Accra, with an interdenominational service honoring the lives and service of the deceased.
The general public is invited to contribute messages of condolence, which will be included in the official funeral brochure.
Submissions should be sent via email to tributes@presidency.gov.gh by 12:00 p.m. GMT on Wednesday, August 13.
On August 11, the Chief of the Defence Staff, Lt. Gen. William Agyapong, met with the families of the victims to seek their consent for state burial and full military honors.
The families graciously agreed, acknowledging the significance of the sacrifice.
President Mahama revealed that during the August 15 funeral, details of a dedicated Education Fund will be unveiled to support the schooling of the orphans left behind.
This initiative is part of the government’s commitment to preserving the legacy of the fallen.
This well-coordinated national response, combining reflection, formal tribute, and social support, reflects Ghana’s collective mourning and commitment to honoring those who died in service.
