Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has renewed the government’s call for deeper Public–Private Partnerships (PPPs) as a vital pathway for national development, particularly in the mental health sector.
Speaking at the commissioning of the ultramodern KGL EVE Medical Centre on the KNUST campus in Kumasi, the Vice President stressed that government alone cannot shoulder the full responsibility of meeting the healthcare needs of Ghana’s rapidly growing population.
She noted that meaningful development requires active collaboration with private sector actors, foundations, and institutions that share the nation’s vision for a resilient and inclusive healthcare system.
Professor Opoku-Agyemang emphasized that rising medical and mental health challenges among children, mothers, students, and retired adults call for accessible, stigma-free, and community-based health services.
These challenges, she said, can only be effectively addressed through strong partnerships that blend government commitment with private sector innovation.
She described the newly commissioned KGL EVE Medical Centre, established through a collaboration between the KGL Group and the EVE Medical Foundation, as a direct contribution to national efforts to improve healthcare delivery.
The facility, she noted, expands service options not only for the Ashanti Region but for the entire country, strengthening Ghana’s capacity in mental health, general healthcare, and preventive services.
Her Royal Highness Lady Julia Osei Tutu, wife of the Asantehene and founder of the EVE Medical Foundation, said the centre was purposefully designed to provide compassionate mental healthcare, general outpatient services, youth and student counselling, and professional psychosocial support.
She explained that the centre aims to bridge academia and healthcare by giving students, faculty, and the wider community direct access to early diagnosis, timely treatment, and preventive care.
Lady Julia added that the facility will serve as a model for integrating mental health services into mainstream healthcare and fostering a holistic approach to community well-being.
