Tema elders call for more scholarships and jobs for local youth

Elders of the Tema Traditional Area are calling on industries and institutions operating within the municipality to invest more in the future of the community—specifically through scholarships and job opportunities for the youth.

Speaking during a community walk to thank all clan houses for a peaceful Kpejoo celebration, the elders noted that Tema has long made sacrifices for national development, especially by releasing large tracts of land for the establishment of key industries.

“We have given so much—our lands, our space—for the development of Ghana,” one elder remarked. “It is only fair that our youth benefit from this progress through access to quality education and decent jobs.”

The elders emphasized that while the presence of major industries has helped drive Ghana’s economy, the local population, particularly the younger generation, often feels left behind when it comes to opportunities.

They appealed for more corporate social responsibility initiatives that directly benefit Tema’s youth, such as targeted scholarships, skills training, and prioritized employment.

The walk, which formed part of post-Kpejoo festivities, also served as a moment of reflection and unity for the traditional authorities, who praised the community for upholding peace and cultural pride during the celebration.

As Tema continues to grow as an industrial hub, the elders insist that the true measure of development lies in how well it uplifts its people—especially the next generation.
