The championship, which promises to be one of the continent’s premier youth weightlifting competitions, will bring together the best young lifters from across Africa to compete and showcase their strength, technique, and determination on the international stage.
The championship will take at GA Mashie Hall of the Trust sports Emporium
From 16th – 22nd August, 2025.
This championship is expected to welcome over 300 athletes and officials, Nigeria, Kenya, Algeria, Egypt, South African, etc.
The support from the weight lifting Federation of Africa WFA has been encouraging, and contribution of,$15,000 towards the effort.
The launch will featured the key stakeholders, including sports authorities, federation officials, athletes, and members of the media.
Speaking at the lunch, President of the Ghana weight lifting Federation, Hon Jerry Ahmed Shaib expressed confidence in Ghana’s readiness to host the event successfully, citing the country’s past record in organizing high-level sporting competitions and its strong pipeline of young talent.
With the 2025 championship expected to attract attention from across the continent, Ghana aims to use the tournament to boost local interest in weightlifting, promote youth sports, and raise the profile of the nation as a host of international events.
He claimed GWF is in collaboration with National sports Authority, support from the ministry of sports and recreation, SSNIT, Accra city hotel and Central hotel.
“We are hoping to get more cash” support from corporate bodies because the Federation need close to Ghc1m to host the event.
