Thomas Partey’s court hearing postponed; cleared for world cup qualifiers

Black Stars midfielder Thomas Partey will be available for Ghana’s 2026 World Cup qualifying matches after a London court adjourned his rape trial.

Partey, 32, was due to appear at the Old Bailey on Tuesday but the hearing has been pushed to September 15, 2025, with no reasons given.

The decision allows him to join Ghana’s squad for the fixtures against Chad on September 4 and Mali on September 8.

The Villarreal player faces five counts of rape involving two women and one count of sexual assault against a third woman.

The alleged incidents took place between April 2021 and June 2022 during his time at Arsenal. He first appeared before Westminster Magistrates’ Court last month.

Partey, who left Arsenal in June to sign for Villarreal on a free transfer, had previously been questioned by police in July 2022 and again in November 2024.

His availability is seen as a major boost to Ghana’s hopes of qualifying for the World Cup.
