True drivers’ association demands prosecution of former roads minister over road toll cancellation

The True Drivers Association of Ghana has called on government to prosecute former Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwasi Amoako-Atta, over what it describes as the unlawful cancellation of road tolls in 2021, a decision the group believes caused significant financial loss to the state.

Speaking in an interview with Piesie Okrah on Accra-based Power FM/TV XYZ, the Association’s Public Relations Officer, Yaw Barimah, disclosed that the group is preparing a formal petition to the President.

“We, the Commercial Transport Operators, are writing to petition President Mahama, EOCO and other law enforcement agencies to demand the immediate arrest and investigation of former Minister Kwasi Amoako-Atta over the cancellation of road tolls. His actions while in office have led to enormous financial losses to the state, and it is imperative that he is held accountable,” he said.

The Association argues that the abolition of road tolls deprived Ghana of a sustainable revenue source that could have been used to maintain and expand critical road infrastructure across the country.
