Two arrested over tiktok threat to President, first lady

Ghanaian police have taken swift action following the circulation of a disturbing TikTok video that contained violent threats against President John Dramani Mahama and First Lady Lordina Mahama.

Two people, Prince Ofori and Yayra Abiwu, have been arrested and are assisting police with investigations, while efforts continue to track down others linked to the video.

The recording features a female voice speaking in Twi, making a chilling reference to the tragic fate of the helicopter crash victims.

“Did you see how they put them in sacks? That’s how we will treat Mahama. We will kill him and cut off the head of his wife.”

The video surfaced shortly after the August 6 military helicopter crash in Adansi Akrofuom District, which claimed the lives of Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, and six others.

This swift response by the Ghana Police Service underscores the seriousness with which threats against national leaders are treated, especially amid a period of national mourning.
