Vice‑President Opoku‑Agyemang inaugurates new schools at entrance university of health sciences

Vice‑President Professor Naana Jane Opoku‑Agyemang has officially inaugurated the Schools of Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, and a modern Dental Hospital at the Entrance University of Health Sciences campus in Spintex.

Entrance University College of Health Sciences has set a national precedent as the first private tertiary institution in Ghana to launch comprehensive medical and dental training alongside clinical services.

At the inauguration, the Vice President underscored the critical role of public–private partnerships in expanding healthcare access and addressing human resource shortages in the sector.

Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang also stressed the urgency of meeting the WHO-recommended doctor-to-population ratio, framing the initiative as a strategic step toward closing Ghana’s healthcare workforce gap.

The newly inaugurated facilities at Entrance University College of Health Sciences boast advanced infrastructure, including smart classrooms, simulation labs, a morgue, a microbiology lab, and modern dental chairs for practical training.

Held under the theme “Training the Next Generation of Health Professionals,” the ceremony was graced by Chancellor Nana Samuel Amo Tobbin, officials from the Church of Pentecost, and the Minister of Health, signifying strong institutional and faith-based support for advancing medical education.

The government is actively enhancing health education through initiatives like integrating the University of Ghana Medical Centre into the national medical training system.

Additionally, the Mahama Cares Initiative, also known as the Ghana Medical Health Trust Fund is being introduced to expand healthcare infrastructure and sustainably fund medical education across the country.

This development is significant because it strengthens Ghana’s healthcare system by expanding local training capacity for medical professionals, including doctors and dentists.

It also reflects a growing emphasis on public–private partnerships to achieve national health goals.

Additionally, the newly opened dental hospital directly benefits communities around Spintex by combining education with accessible, quality care.
